Basic Information: On the History Immersion Team, Mr. Meddaugh and students of CCHS join together to participate in historical immersions to present to different groups of people. Students portray their knowledge and dress according to the historical era while learning accurate details about important times in our past.

What is an historical immersion? Historical immersions are an educational method developed Mr. Meddaugh. Immersion days are scheduled and announced with plenty of advanced notice. The “coordinate” of the immersion period is also designated. The coordinate will intersect the place and time. For example, early in the U.S. History class, an immersion coordinate might likely be 1625 Plymouth, Massachusetts. The prior readings and homework will prepare the students for the exercise. When the students walk through the door, knowledge of any events, values, and ideas beyond that era are off limits. The instructor will teach the class as if they are sitting in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1625.
The students can be expected to learn about 1) the social structures of the period: class designations, gender roles, occupational options, laws, morals, religious beliefs and expectations, nomenclature, language conventions, rituals, racial stereotypes, etc.; 2) the political climate: who the leaders are and what their goals are, what wars are under way, what national crises and concerns are in the air, and what the bounds of the empire are; and 3) the technological status: how travel and communication take place, what the latest scientific theories are, weaponry, medicine, etc.
Immersion periods, however, will be dialogues more than lectures. In other words, the class will be taught largely in a Socratic (questioning) format. This unique and dynamic educational method is designed to keep students interested in a playful and entertaining manner, while at the same time providing them with a thorough education in American history.
